Finale

Author: Stephanie Garber        Genre: YA Fantasy (Romance)   Age recommendation: 13±

Summary (https://www.goodreads.com):

A love worth fighting for. A dream worth dying for. An ending worth waiting for.

It’s been two months since the Fates were freed from a deck of cards, two months since Legend claimed the throne for his own, and two months since Tella discovered the boy she fell in love with doesn’t really exist.

With lives, empires, and hearts hanging in the balance, Tella must decide if she’s going to trust Legend or a former enemy. After uncovering a secret that upends her life, Scarlett will need to do the impossible. And Legend has a choice to make that will forever change and define him.

Caraval is over, but perhaps the greatest game of all has begun. There are no spectators this time—only those who will win, and those who will lose everything.

Welcome, welcome to Finale . . . all games must come to an end.

Review:

In Finale we get both Scarlett's and Tella's POV and I loved that but I was a bit disappointed that we got so much less of Scarlett's POV. I wanted more of Scarlett and <julian but the interactions they did have were really cute and I loved reading about them. I love both of the characters and over the span of the last two books I've grown really fond of them- and their love interests. I love Julian, Legend and Jacks in their own way even if -especially one of them- they can be really flawed. The love triangle between Tella, Legend and Jacks was so fun to read about.

Aside from the characters I really liked the plot even though I did miss the Caraval games. The lore and backstories we got on the Fates, fated places and fated objects were really fun to read about and Garber explained so much more about the magic of the world.

The plot itself did feel a bit rushed with everything feeling anticlimactic. The big twists that happened and should have wowed me, just fell flat and rushed past me.

I am having difficulties writing this review for exactly that reason. I just forgot so much of what happened.

The writing of this book and the series in general is so beautiful. It’s a lot of description using colours and emotions being connected with physical things. There were some really beautiful sentences and it just felt magical to read. The writing is really descriptive with less dialogue and and the plot shown through action, which I actually appreciate.

Buchbuzz Rating:

4 stars - I would give the series as a whole 4.5 stars and I would definitely recommend it to YA Fantasy readers.
