The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

General Info: I would recommend this for the age 13 and up and if you're mature 11 or 12, since the book contains several themes of violence, death and trauma which may trigger younger readers. The Hunger Games is the first book in the trilogy and is 454 pages long.

Content (What's written on the back of the book):

In a dark vision of the near future, twelve boys and twelve girls are forced to appear in a live TV show called the Hunger Games. There is only one rule: kill or be killed. When sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister's place in the games, she sees it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to death before. For her, survival is second nature.

Review:

Characters: The Characters in this book are so well written. The protagonist Katniss Everdeen was such an interesting Person. The way she was thinking and processing things just matched her personality perfectly which made her seem like a real person. She almost always acted ,the way she was acting, for her sister which really made her lovable even though she was a really serious person. Peeta Mellark was really the opposite of Katniss. He was very sweet and caring and the combination of these characters were so fun because it was interesting to watch two different personality types together (I loved them together ????)

Aside from these two protagonists there were side characters, who I fell in love with (big Haymitch and Cinna Fan here) and they made everything a lot more interesting. And even the side Characters were playing such an important role in terms of Character development or support for Katniss.

Plot: This plot may seem very simple at first but there were so many layers and thoughts behind it which you start to notice later in the book. The starting of the book showing Katniss's home in district 12 and her life before everything changed was so well told and described. The parts in the Capitol made everything so much more interesting since this plot is very reliant on the politics of Panem and that section was very well made.

As someone who speaks English as her second or even third language this book was really easy to understand. The writing style wasn't too complex with “exotic” words that I had to search up but it wasn't too simple and casual as well. When reading dystopian books or fantasy, they are always very heavy on worldbuilding and even though we learned a lot about Panem it wasn't too overwhelming and she explained it just enough so I cared and loved that world. The way Suzanne Collins described and explained things in the book are still in my memory because it was so well written.

Buchbuzz Opinion:

This is a 5 star read and I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely recommend. (I now understand why its so popular ????)
